Finally, "The Sun in a Net" on DVD! All the incoherent memories from my childhood, when I first saw the film on the telly, coming together (no, I'm not nearly old enough to have seen it in a cinema all those years ago). They say this film started the Czechoslovak New Wave. True or not, one can tell right from the opening title sequence it's different. Certainly not the average piece of cinema, not even in the terms of the 60's cinema. The images... wonderful! The score... I just wish I could show you some "shots" of the music & sounds used in the film... Anyway, do not take my word for it - you gotta see this for yourself. The DVD is just 3 EUR something, so not buying it is a crime. And crime's bad, m'kay? (c: *difference between channels is -75.07 dB (0.02 %) **subtitled in Slovak & English |

Unlike " The Boxer and Death," which didn't seem like such a revelation to me, this is a significant upgrade from the DVD - the improved clarity / detail is readily apparent even in the downscaled screenshots. (The DVD now looks contrast-boosted a little too.) A minor quibble, but - doing QC for a living - it always pains me to see this; there's an obvious encoding error in the 44-second menu loop:
