Also available in "3x Juraj Jakubisko" 3-disc set, together with:

The disc starts with the SFI logo, followed by ads for Klapka.sk & The Daily SME. The former is actually a short interview with Vladimír [Ady] Hajdu & Roman Luknár (1:00, in Slovak), who speak about their roles in Miloslav Luther's "Chodník cez Dunaj" ("A Path Across the Danube").

Here we have a sight as yet unseen - two different Czech-o-Slovak ;-) releases of the same Czechoslovak film. So, is the Czech one better, or did SFI do their homework right? We shall see in the next breathtaking, awe-inspiring paragraph:

The first readily apparent difference is the fact that Bonton is anamorphic, while SFI - again :-P - isn't. The framing & colour timing differ significantly too. I cannot pass judgement here though, as even if SFI respects the OAR, and colour-wise I found it more pleasing to the eye, the Czech edition has been produced by Jakubisko Film (Jakubisko himself?), and thus the differences might represent director's intent. However, for what it's worth, Bonton's DVD misses a few brief snippets of footage (mouse over the images to see the number of frames missing @ the given time):

TV Markíza DVB (frame 24526 | 49363 | 74432 | 74441)

30 frames @ 16:20

In the extras department, the "metterforical" Oscar goes to SFI for including the contemporary newsreel - a valuable supplement indeed...

Aargh, does nobody do QC these days?! A glaringly obvious encoding error right at the beginning of the film - things like that just should NOT happen!

Second Run (frame 1771)

Also, I don't see the point of re-formatting a non-anamorphic master (which is what - I assume - Second Run received from SFI) to 16:9, when it actually looks worse than the original (the SR capture is at its native resolution of 1024×576 [sans black bars]; SFI has been [properly] re-formatted to match):
