Notes:
The quality of the transfer is nothing Bonton can be proud of. Judging from the flat bitrate graph, I'd say it comes from a Digital Beta tape. On the other hand, the amount of print damage, white speckles (much more than our gallery reveals), and chroma noise (note e.g. Mr Brodský's coat in frame 41140), suggest the film was transferred from an analogue source, most probably a wax cylinder:

CČV/Bonton (frame 136857)

I've only listened to the 5.1 track, which seemed to be quite clear, however, besides a couple of "booms" that shook the furniture, the subwoofer was mostly left unused, and I didn't notice anything coming from the rear speakers.

Nevertheless, the film itself was very entertaining, and I definitely recommend having a look at it.

Shoot! Thought this is going to be the same case as "Nick Carter in Prague," where the Russian DVD - supposedly coming from a Japanese source - looks the best. Here, it's the other way around - the Czech disc seems to be the superior one, as you can easily see in the gallery below...

Notes:
This DVD is a part of Bohemia Motion Pictures' "Klenoty českého filmu" ("The Jewels of Czech Cinema") collection - conceived to take advantage of the availability of new high-definition masters created primarily for HDTV broadcast.
In this case, I'm not sure what to make of the new master - this is the first colour film in the collection that I'm reviewing (after Who Wants to Kill Jessie?, The Cremator & The Murderer Hides His Face, shot in B & W), and compared to the "vintage" CČV release the palette just seems too dull / cool to me.
That's purely subjective, of course - the only objective piece of criticism [besides the usual "Why aren't they releasing these on Blu-ray?!"] I've got to offer is "Why do they release an Academy ratio film 16:9 enhanced?!"
