| Notes: | The Christmas favourite "Three Wishes for Cinderella" gets a 1080p facelift courtesy of the National Film Archive / Magyar Filmlabor & Bohemia Motion Pictures, but the results are a mixed bag; I personally am quite happy with the visual side of things (I don't really mind the NFA's insistence on keeping such features that originated from the shooting and laboratory processing, to wit cue blips, intact), but aurally it's a mess. The sound sync is all over the place, the 3rd reel faring the worst - the picture lags behind the sound by a good half a second, which is more than enough for even the regular viewers [i.e. not only the anal-retentive reviewers :-P] to find it distracting ==> notice for instance the alignment of the crossbow twang compared to the unrestored TV broadcast version (FYI, those are not consecutive frames - they're approx. 625 ms apart):

Overall, I would still recommend the package, but the above just goes to show that there must be something to all those controversies surrounding the NFA restorations produced for them by the Magyar Filmlabor - more on which in one of my upcoming comparisons... |
